They're not there now of course! Manvers Colliery closed in March 1988, the site now includes distribution centres, offices, housing, recently planted woodland and a new waste treatment plant.
On 1 March 1984, Thatcher's government announced the closure of Cortonwood Colliery, as the first of 20 pit closures, which triggered the Great Miners' Strike. It closed in October 1985, the site is now a retail and business park.
